Portuguese PV GRID Forum

Organised by APESF

Organizer: APESF
Date: 9 May 2013
Time: 14:15 - 18:20
Venue: Rua do Bojador - Parque das Nações, 1998-010 Lisboa, Portugal

The Portuguese national forum took place on the 9th of May, in Lisbon, with a total number of around 145 participants. Speakers and the attendees were covering all the domains of the PV sector in Portugal: governmental authorities, regulators and legislators, DSOs, other national associations for energy, scholars who study and teach PV integration, engineers and PV installers.

On the context of PV GRID Project, Marie Latour presented the scope of the study, its objectives and outcomes, as well as the scenarios for the future of PV and possible consequences of grid constraints. The results and practical barriers were presented by Eng. Karl Moosdorf from APESF, making the comparison between different countries, with different legal frames and as a summary, what would be the main important changes that Portugal should implement that would allow PV to be fully exploited.

The forum closed with an open debate between Mr Juan Peña from SMA, Mr Rui Fiteiro representing the distribution grid in Portugal (EDP Distribuição) and Mr Luís Seca from INESC. The debate focused on the technical integration of PV with distribution grid and its potential difficulties. From the technical point of view, there was no problem concerning this theme. The possibility of the actual grids becoming “smart grids”, could bring some technical difficulties on the establishment of grid parameters especially in higher power density regions.

However, as the debate went on, it was clear that, with the necessary goodwill of the main government entities, the barriers could be easily overcomed.
